Eat: The story of a bimbo in the kitchen

Hi, so initially when we started this blog we wanted to not only talk about online shopping but also about food which we love as well. But so far we've only had one eat post so here's the second.

Ok, to be honest i'm a bit embarrassed to blog about this but hey, we're pretty anonymous so who cares!

So here's the thing, v one day (or was it f??) told me about this uber cute food blog which features daily bento boxes. And she was showing me this really cute shaped hardboiled egg. The eggs were in the shapes of bears and bunnys. CUTE OVERLOAD I tell you. Well here's what they look like. Photo credits to: JustBento.com:

Anyway, after seeing how cute the molds are, I was on the lookout for them. I happen to find them on GMarket (which is the korean online shopping site. Mad awesome i tell you. but i guess that's another post for another day). The mold itself was cheap but shipping was a nightmare. I think around USD 20?

So yea, sort of forgot about these egg thingies for like 6 months? haha. Then the other day i went to KL and was browsing around in Daiso and suddenly i thought, hey, who knows they might have my egg thingy. So I excitedly walk to the cooking aisle and started searching and lo and be hold i found them. How excited I was. I bought three sets. Each set has two molds so i have six in total: bear, bunny, heart, star, car and fish.

But then in my typical fashion, after the initial excitement wore off i sort of forgot about them. So when i came back from KL, i just left them still in my suitcase. Until today. Hehe. I was feeling bored and hungry so i thought hey, why not give it a try.

But then it started going downhill. I'm a noob when it comes to cooking. First off, i don't even know how to boil an egg. Yes. laugh if you want but it's true. I mean, do you boil the water first then add the egg or do you boil the egg and water together? But i didn't really care so i boil the water first and only when it started boiling i added the egg. I decided to just make three first. so in 3 eggs i popped. Then came a second problem: how do you know when the egg is hard boiled?

That i really had no idea so i decided to just wait. but then of course patience is not a virtue of mine so after i'm guessing a minute or two i switch the fire off and took out one of my eggs. Third problem: how do you peel a hardboiled egg? Cracking a raw egg i know so i assumed it's the same. I knocked the egg against a hard surface and that was when i knew the egg was still uncooked. Ooops. The egg was still all soft and stuff and i could feel the egg yolk starting to ooze out. But then i thought, oh well no harm done. i still have two eggs and i guess now i can have soft boiled eggs as well.

So again, i turned the stove on and started waiting again. After another minute i figured the egg has to be done by now. So, i turned off the stove and took out my second egg. This time i was more careful. I took a spoon and slowly cracked my egg. All was going well then being the clumsy self that i am i pressed too hard and again yolk came oozing out. I was getting slightly frustrated at this point and nearly gave up.

So now, i have two eggs that can't be used and only one left. I turned the stove on for the third time and told myself to be more patient. I waited and waited for the longest time ever (but truth be told it was probably less than a minute). Turned off the stove and repeated the process. This time it was going better. But the egg was still sort of soft but i didn't care anymore. I continued peeling and voila i had a hard boiled egg. it was not very pretty. i sort of peeled of some of the egg along with the shell but i didn't care. haha.

So i quickly popped it into one of the molds (i chose the bear mold) and closed it. The egg was probably a bit too big as some oozed out but i didn't really care. Then i popped the egg and mold into a bowl of water to cool it back down. I have no idea how long i'm supposed to wait but i was already lazy and bored of it so i just gave it a couple of seconds. And when i finally opened my mold this is what greeted my eyes:

A combination of bad photography and a failed attempt resulted in this monstrosity. So that's what i got but this is what it's supposed to look like:

What a huge contrast!!!

And of course by then i've lost my appetite so my dog got a surprise treat. haha. doubt they will bother about the shape and overall disgusting-ness.

So that's that. I guess you all now know what a huge bimbo i can be. and hey, i'm not going to give up. I still have 5 molds yet to try out.

V & M let's have a cook out and my contribution will be egg salad (s, sorry you're in aus). hehe. Or better yet, when are we having our picnic at school????

Vintage

As of late, I am beginning to have increasing interest in all things vintage. I feel that they are timeless pieces  which will give you the quirky and cute look. So how excited was I when I came across a website that is new to me, Beautiful Disaster, having a major clearance on their vintage items, that I couldn't wait to blog about it to share with you all.

I just adore these three dresses and I know some of you might think that they are old fashioned, but if you notice closely, most trends today are adapted from vintage styles. The red dress has a demure baby doll cutting while, dress in the middle has the structured style. As for the pink dress, definitely you can say florals! And if you think the length is too old, just take a scissors to it and there you have it, a stylish vintage dress. Pair it with a few accessories and a skinny belt and you're set.

These three button down blouses are a few that I picked out from the site which I think look great too! The floral one especially with the pussy bow is so sophisticated but pretty too due to the floral patterns.

I dare say the variety of vintage skirts from the website caught my attention the most! I am so tempted to purchase these skirts and then take a scissors to hack off 2 to 3 inches of it. The prints are gorgeous especially the first 2. What a bargain for all the items, going for RM 25 each!

Glossy addiction

Look at what I stumbled across at Glossy addiction; a Balenciaga-inspired wallet!! I am quite fond of glossy items, and I love how the zips on this piece seems to compliment its glossy texture so well! Another trait that seems to pull me in is the multi-compartments = 12! Perfect for me as I love keeping those freebie cards! =D

Apart from that, I'm loving this Balenciaga-inspired bag too! They're bringing in the 2nd batch by mid-april so get yours reserved today! (I already did =P)

They've got tons more of bags in-store that are selling really fast. Some of which I'm tempted to get as well.

I've been looking around for nice and cheap dinner clutches and this seems to fulfill both criteria.

And last but not least, the drawstring bucket for a perfect casual outing ;)

Blog Review: Karen Cheng's Snippets of Life

This post will be slightly different from our usual fashion feature pieces as I want to feature a blog which i follow oh so often. For some of you, I'm sure you're familiar with Karen Cheng's Snippets of Life, but for those who don't, she's a blogger mom who talks about her daily life with her 3 super adorable children and of course FASHION. Her posts usually includes what she wears daily and also review on fashion festivals. The amount of features she does on designers, boutiques, fashion finds and online shopping makes her somewhat a reviewer like us and also a fellow online shopper. However, seeing as she is based in Australia, most of her fashion posts will be related to Aussie based designers and shops. However, I think her website is a excellent place for inspiration for fashion and also the 'eat' part of our blog, cooking tips!

Over here she is modeling clothes for online boutiques as well as real shops which she features. Now i am not sure if she gets the item complimentary with her features or does she have to purchase them, but i think we can all agree the clothes are fabulous!

Skirts skirts skirts

I realized I haven't been updating as often as I would like. Been to caught up with this new series I'm watching called Dollhouse. But fret not..I am back with a blog post on items that I saw which reallllllyyy caught my eye. So tempted to buy buy buy...haha

Nowadays I am more interested in quirky skirts with a vintage feel and even better if its a high waist piece. Short, long or knee length, it doesn't matter, just so long it is a versatile piece. I think skirts are so wearable and can be paired with just about anything. I have been scouring blogs and there are surprisingly tons of cute skirts out there.

Hair accessories!

Blair Waldorf of gossip girl seems to love her hair accessories lots! Mind you, she even wore her hair bands to Yale (Only to have Dan grab it off her head....) Well, that's that. But I sure think her hair accessories are drool-worthy, and I do wonder how much those accessories cost. (I'm sure she wouldn't even dream of touching them if they were some commoner item...) *cough* Ok, ok I'll stop getting off the topic this time.

Being the avid shopaholic that i am, i've managed to accumulate quite a number of clothing, some that i've worn only once and after that chuck it in the back of closet, long forgotten just cause it's no longer brand new. How sad and wasteful right?

And, i've been shopping a bit too much these past few days and my closet is so packed that i find it hard to get anything out.

So it's time to clear out the old closet.

Item 1: White kimono dress

Selling for: RM 20

Item history:

I'm feeling super sad to let these things go but my wallet is just too empty and i really feel too guilty. I bought this from Bangkok so i got it quite cheap, around Rm 30 i think. But i saw it selling at some blogshops for rm 40+. I've worn it only once so it's still in perfect condition. I'm letting it go because i actually bought three of the exact same thing but in different colours and patterns (one is red, another has a floral pattern on it)

Item 2: Grey Cap Sleeve Dress/Top

Selling for: Rm 20

Item history:

Another item i bought from Thailand. Also got it for around Rm 30. I can't remember if i even worn this before. I loved it when i bought it but then when i got back and tried it on, it was a bit too short to be a dress so i sort of didn't like it that much anymore. I'm just too fickle minded.

Item 3: Dual toned floral dress

Selling for: Rm 15

Item history:

The last of my purchases from Bangkok that i'm letting go. Seen this dress on tonnes of online blogshops before i went to bangkok and was soooooo tempted to get it. But i saw it for around rm 30-40 so didn't get it. Imagine my delight when i saw it in bangkok and it was CHEAP! i think Rm 20-25. Can't remember the exact price. But then i was soo happy that i didn't even look at it properly and same as item 2 it's just a tad too short for my liking.

Item 4: Blue capped sleeve bubble dress

Item history:

Bought this dress from Singapore. I think for SGD 20?? I've worn this a couple of times so letting it go at a much cheaper price compared to what i paid for. But it's still in great condition. I'm letting it go because i realized i have two dresses in the exact same colour and similar cut.

Item 5: Grey hoodie dress

Item history:

Bought this hoodie dress from Australia for I think around AUD 15?? can't remember the exact price. It's from ICE, an australian clothing brand. Umm. it's a bit too small for me. sigh. so it's never worn. It's a size m and me thinking that australians are typically bigger than asians thought that an m would fit me fine. but oh well, guess i'm wrong there.

Bought this from ladiesfash quite a long time ago to be honest for i guess rm 16-18? Only worn once. TOO (i need to stress the TOO) many kimono tops/dresses

Item 7: 3 layer kimono top

Another item i bought from ladiesfash. This was more expensive. Rm 22 i think but i've worn it 2-3 times. Selling for the same reason as item 6, way too many kimono tops/dresses

It's the start of a new month, so for those who shop according to a monthly quota (LOL at m.), it's time to start shopping again ey? Good news is, there have been quite a few blogshops that have just updated with new goodies!

Florals: Part 2

So we did a feature on florals ages ago, well even after a couple of months, floral dresses are still all the rage. But i guess the florals you see around now are more vintage-y.

Take this dress from die heart fashion. I think the floral design has this vintage feel to it. Going for RM 46.

Another gorgeous floral dress I spotted, this one from Shopaholics Unite! going for Rm 53. I must say, i'm completely in love with this dress. Oh so tempted to get it!!!

Here's the thing, we're followers of smwdy and we came across a post where a few commenters mentioned that review blogs should cater more towards first time shopper and provide some first hand experience. Well, we can't agree more. So here's our honest, unbiased, impartial lowdown on Shopaholics Unite!

Do note though we've only collectively shopped here once so our opinion is based on our sole experience. I LOVE shopping with Shopaholics Unite! The owner, Leng is friendly, and very accommodating. I remember asking her tons of questions about the measurements and she was very prompt with her reply and more importantly, she was always polite. So service wise i'll rate her as 5 stars. And, there's nothing to complain about either as her product is top notch as well. Overall i was very satisfied with my purchase so will definitely shop from her again in the future.

And last but not least, to cap of this floral post, yet another lovely floral dress from Doublewoot and the best part is it's only going for rm 44 but you all better hurry because this is the last piece left!!

Doublewoot is another shop that we've made purchases from. For me I think double woot like shopaholics unite is very professional, prompt and provides great service. The one time i ordered something from the shop, their reply was very fast (within an hour i think) and they were very flexible. But unfortunately, my fellow eat.gossip.girl's sister had a not so pleasant encounter with doublewoot. The thing with doublewoot is they have a large clientele. I think this is pretty clear by how fast their items are sold out. So due to some carelessness on their side, they accidentally sent out the item to another online shopper with the same name living in another state. But you know what, things like this happens, so i guess she was just unlucky. This most likely won't stop me from shopping at doublewoot though. There's no doubt that in terms of quality, they rate a five star. So i guess the key is to double check with them before they send out the package just to confirm that the package is going where it should.
